Why Second Language Mentor?

Hi. My name is Gary Birch and I’ve spent approximately 40 years either teaching second languages or teaching others how to do it.

Now I’ve retired and feel it’s a bit of a waste to allow the expertise that I’ve developed over a lifetime to disappear into oblivion. Especially since in the world today second language learning is about as common as breathing. Surely there’s something I can contribute to this process.

So, I came up with the idea that I could offer my services as a mentor to anyone who wants to learn a second language.

But let’s be clear about one thing: I’m not going to teach you a language! But I’ll help you to go about learning whatever language you have chosen in the fastest, most enjoyable way possible for you. And if you are encountering some particular difficulty, I’ll advise you how you might overcome it.

So, each week I’ll post an article in the blog on some aspect of second language learning. You are encouraged to comment on what I have written or ask questions about the content of the article. Or, if you need advice on some language learning problem you have encountered, ask about it in the Comment section.
